Everything, Lupin

Sometimes your arch-nemesis is very-VERY distracting.

Part of me didn’t want to post this, because I could have cleaned it up, but by the time I got it completed, I might have moved on to something else. I would like to share sketches more.

YYH Tarot Deck – Ace Of Swords

This is the 2nd card I worked on for the yyh-tarot-deck-project. It’s the Ace of Swords.

I really REALLY wanted to dedicate a card to Takenaka. This man is the goat!!! He knew Yusuke had a heart of gold before any of the other adults did. I liked this description of the Ace of Swords.

“Swords cut through things in order to pierce illusion, to differentiate between fantasy and reality.“

Takenaka cut through Yusuke’s tough-guy facade and saw a troubled kid, who needed guidance.

Flower stilll life

I picked from my family’s garden. I really wanted to traditionally paint flowers this year.

The only time I could fit in traditional painting was the week before my move. It was so bittersweet. I painted it that night and the next day I packed up my paints. Hopefully I can fit in one more traditional painting before the year ends.

Portait Color Studies

Some rough color studies I did a while back. The little girl was a study from The Queen’s Gambit.

I didn’t realize that it’s been almost six months since my last post. IRL got stupid busy in May and didn’t put the brakes on until, maybe, now? I’m still juggling my new schedule, but I don’t want to keep you all in the dark. I have still been making art in those 6 months, even if at a slower pace.

So, I’m doing the thing every artist does and promise to upload more often, but maybe if you all know that is my goal and desire, if I fall short, you know I truly want to share my art.

Commision Page Process Art

Rarely do I slow down enough to share my process from a sketch to a finished, colored piece. This is my display piece for my commission page, which I’ll be opening up at the end of May or June.

Labyrinth

It was a joy to work with Kazimakuwara on this project. When I found out about the project, I just had to join. I had such fun combining yyh references with Labyrinth ones until they started to seamlessly blend together.

I knew exactly what I wanted to create when I got this assignment. I’ve been itching to draw a movie poster and have always found the Labyrinth poster exceptionally beautiful, with the beautiful designs by Brian Froud.

Ted Coconis is the artist behind the original Labyrinth poster. He works primarily with acrylic paints, which surprised me because his work feels like watercolors. You can check out his work here.

Huge shout-out to the blog Film on Paper. Because of their amazing high-resolution photos of the poster, I was able to recreate mine with such accuracy. Please check them out!!

Also, thanks @themuppetmasterencyclopedia for having such detailed photos of the puppets. It was such a huge help when I was drawing Humongous.

Lastly, thanks to Aria Couture for having such highly detailed photos of Sarah’s dress from different angles.
